FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a sleep clinic? A sleep clinic is a medical facility directed by a medical doctor with special training in sleep disorders. All facets of our patient’s sleep are identified and evaluated by our Board registered Polysomnographic Technologists (RPSGT). Our sleep laboratory is equipped to measure and assess all aspects of sleep such as breathing, eye movements, muscle tone, airflow, chest and abdominal movement, oxygen saturation and body movements. The results will be studied and evaluated by trained professionals in the comfort and privacy of our sleep lab. You are welcome to stop by our lovely facility to tour the SHORECLIFFS Medical Group offices and sleep laboratory.
How does anyone fall asleep, in a sleep lab, with all those wires attached? Actually, most people fall asleep quite readily and are surprised by the quality of their sleep at our facility. Though sleep may not be perfect or completely refreshing, even with a limited amount of sleep, our expert technicians are able to obtain valuable information to aide in life-changing diagnoses for our patients.
Does insurance cover sleep evaluation and sleep study? Yes, the majority of insurance plans do cover sleep evaluation and sleep study. The medical and insurance communities realize that sleep health is a vital part of overall health care.
How does anyone sleep while wearing a CPAP? Many people have apprehension about using Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP). Our dedicated, Board registered Polysomnographic Technologists (RPSGT) are committed to teaching our patients the essential ingredients to successful CPAP therapy, especially understanding why CPAP works and how it will help them. Newly designed equipment has patient comfort and ease of use as a high priority. Our lab manager is constantly researching improved designs and increased efficiency for our CPAP equipment.
How will I learn to use my CPAP? It is important that our patients are properly introduced to CPAP, correctly fitted with their masks, adequately humidified and heated, and treated for possible nasal congestion. Explicit attention is given to any complications or difficulties our patients are experiencing and immediately corrected by our staff. When proper steps are followed, successful CPAP therapy is certain.
